Text elements

In this tutorial, you will learn about text elements and the differences between them. You can choose between standard text elements that use the printer’s built-in fonts, and special graphics-based fonts to print custom characters.

Open the label template editor

You can use an existing template or create a new one for this tutorial. If you don’t know how to do it or you would like to learn basic information about the sizes and positioning of elements on the label, check out this this tutorial first.

Types of text elements

You can choose from two types of text elements. Although their purpose is similar, each of them has different properties. The available types are

  • standard text element
  • special text element

Standard text element

It is the first item available in the toolbox on the left side of the editor, marked with the icon with the letter T.

The standard text element is used to print basic text in the standard font built into the printer.

Place a standard text element in the template

Click the standard text element icon in the toolbox on the left side of the editor (first icon from the top). Notice that when you click a new item, the options panel for the active item appear on the right side of the editor.

Standard text element has the standard parameters available such as

  • Name – any name you choose, it helps you identify an element
  • Description – optional field, designed to allow you to describe the item in more detail
  • Position (x, y) – exact coordinates of element’s location (for more information, please refer to section of positioning in this tutorial)
  • Value expression – value that should be printed by this element (for more information, please refer to this tutorial)
  • Font size – value representing font size of an element

Special text element

This is the second item available in the toolbox on the left side of the editor, marked with an icon with the letter A.

It differs from the standard text element by the possibility of choosing a non-standard font previously uploaded to the program. This item allows you to use fonts not available as standard on your printer. Thanks to this, you can print texts written in any font and in any language. * Please note, however, that unlike standard text, this is sent as graphics, which puts more strain on the connection to the printer. If you don’t need a custom font, a standard text element will be a more optimal choice

In addition to the parameters identical to those for a standard text element (described section above), a control will appear in the element options panel that allows you to select a font

  • Font – font of the element, selected from the list of fonts available (installed) in the program

Place a special text element in the template

Click the special text element icon in the toolbox on the left side of the editor (second icon from the top). Notice that when you click a new item, the options panel for the active item appear on the right side of the editor with additional Font parameter available.
