Shapes and images

In addition to content elements such as text and barcodes or 2D codes, labels often need to organize content, add accents, lines, borders and sometimes even graphics, such as a company logo. The editor allows you to use elements such as borders, lines and images.

Open the label template editor

You can use an existing template or create a new one for this tutorial. If you don’t know how to do it or you would like to learn basic information about the sizes and positioning of elements on the label, check out this this tutorial first.

Common parameters

There are some parameters common with any other element you could use in editor:

  • Name – any name you choose, it helps you identify an element
  • Description – optional field, designed to allow you to describe the item in more detail
  • Position (x, y) – exact coordinates of element’s location (for more information, please refer to section of positioning in this tutorial)

Image

Edytor pozwoli Ci dostosować punkt odcięcia czerni i bieli korzystając z suwaka jednego z parametrów.

  • Set size by – you can choose how you want to scale your image, choose between height and width
  • Size – dpi points of width or height, depending on the previos setting. The second dimension will be scaled proportionally to maintain aspect ratio
  • Brightness – with this slider you can set the cutoff point for monochrome converter. Simply put, you set the brightness point where a given image pixel will be converted to a black point and when it will stay white

As you can see in the example below, sometimes you need to find the right brightness setting for your image, -45% seems to look good in this case.

Add image to the template

Click the image icon in the tollbox at the left side of editor and choose desired graphics file. Try to change its size and test the brightness slider.

Line

Line is a shape that can be modified by setting its thickness, length and direction. When it comes to length and direction, you can manipulate them by setting the coordinates of the starting and the ending point of the line, using additional position parameters

  • Position parameters – unlike other elements, the lines have two pairs of coordinates, [x1, y1] and [x2, y2]. The first pair refers to the start point of the line, the second to the end point. The location of these points determines the length and direction of the line
  • Border thickness – thickness of rectangle border line

Add image to the template

Click the line icon in the tollbox. Change the line thickness and starting and ending points positions. Follow the sizing and positioning rules described in this tutorial in the positioning section. Notice how the [x1, y1] and [x2, y2] parameters keep the proportion of line size and direction when you move it on the the tempalate.

Rectangle

Rectangle is a shape for which you can set additional parameters. All of them are expressed in dpi points.

  • Width – width of a rectangle
  • Height – height of a rectanlge
  • Border thickness – thickness of rectangle border line

Add rectangle to the template

Click the line icon in the tollbox. Change the line thickness and size parameters.
